We all look forward to the day when we wake up and find that the Covid-19 lockdown has passed. Right now, though, that day seems distant.
The sudden switch to online learning has put immense strain on our ‘missing middle’ students. These students don’t qualify for government funding and/or they can’t afford digital devices and data. If they can’t cross the digital divide, they face the bleak possibility of repeating the year at great personal expense.
But thanks to investors like you, 1 249 university students have received fee injections on the Feenix crowdfunding platform since inception. Last week alone, people just like you made it possible for Feenix to disburse almost R730 000 into 112 students’ university fees accounts! What’s more, 373 students have also received laptops, food or data vouchers through our #CapTheGap campaign which is now heading into the last of its three month campaign.
It’s amazing what we can do when we work together!
Third year B.Comm student Kwazinkosi Mhlongo is one of them. His academic journey has not been easy.
“Once I even had to drop out of university to make ends meet for my family. I was caught between a rock and a hard place – but I decided to pursue my academic dream,” he says.

All Kwazinkosi wants is to do well in this, his final year – but his hopes were shattered when universities locked down and students were sent off campus. “Even though universities announced e-learning would commence, I could not access it. I didn’t have a laptop or stable internet connection,” he says.
Thanks to Feenix investors like you, Feenix disbursed funds towards his fees and #CapTheGap equipped him with a brand new Acer notebook, data bundles and food vouchers. This wonderful gift will allow Kwazinkosi to cross the bridge to online learning – and puts his graduation within reach.
The truth is, we could not have impacted the lives of students like this without you. Your gifts made online by clicking here go beyond their rand value.
“Your support is more than a donation. It gives destitute students an opportunity to complete their academic journeys. As Henry Ford said: “Coming together is a beginning. Keeping together is progress. Working together is success,” Kwazinkosi says.
And you can be part of the success by making your donation right now!
